Real Estate Community Campaigning to Keep Seniors Safe at Home
Volunteers Needed for June 4 - 5 Project to Remove Ivy, Paint Home of Senior Resident in City

The clock is ticking on the 90-day effort by CAAR, Blue Ridge Home Builders Association and Albemarle Housing Improvement Program to raise $30,000 toward keeping our senior neighbors aging safely in their homes. Seniors Safe at Home is back for its second year to raise awareness throughout the community of the critical need to help 200 senior citizens make emergency repairs to their homes who don't have the resources to do it themselves. Anyone can help for free by visiting the Seniors Safe at Home Facebook page and liking it and sharing content with their network.

Seniors Safe at HomeTo take your support to the next level, make a donation to the new FundRazr crowdfunding site. The platform tracks progress, so we have real-time updates of how close we are getting to our goal. Because of last year’s supporters, 92 senior citizens received help from AHIP, from building handicap access ramps and new roofs to installing zero-step bathtubs and new HVAC and plumbing systems. Thanks to campaign sponsors Better Living, Pape & Company Inc. Real Estate Consultants and Appraisers and Wells Fargo. Thank you to the many other generous donors. Now we ask everyone else to join in making a difference in the lives of our senior community. Get involved today!

William Brown, an 86-year-old resident of the 10th and Page neighborhood, needs our help. Since his wife died a few years ago, Brown has not been able to keep up with repairs which now total nearly $90,000. AHIP has organized a project on Tuesday, June 4 and Wednesday, June 5 to remove ivy that has taken over his home and then put a fresh coat of paint on the exterior. A maximum of 20 volunteers is needed each day, and you are welcome to sign up for a half day, either 9 am - noon or 1 - 4 pm. Email Katie Davenport to sign up.
