Campbell, author of “The Horse in Virginia: An Illustrated History,” Virginia's horse tradition goes back 400 years, to when horses accompanied some of the first settlers in Jamestown. Ever since then, for horse lovers, the Commonwealth and the horse have been a marriage made in heaven.
